Adding and Subtracting Strategies

Adding: Round and Compensate (When one number is near 100)

(1) 78 + 99 =  177    

    □ = 78 + 100 – 1

   = 177

We add on the tidy number 100 to get 178, but this is one too many, so the answer is 177

We can show this strategy on an empty number line:

(2) 187 + 98 =   285

□ = 187 + 100 – 2

    = 285

(4) Goldenhorse sold 596 disks in the first week and 234 more the next week. How many is that altogether? : 830

(5) Write two word problems of your own that could be done using this strategy.:

1.155  +  __  =344

155+200= 355 -11

          =344

2. 356 + 96= 452

300 + 90 = 390

390 + 50 + 90 = 530

6 + 6 = 12

12 + 530 + 390 = 932.

Year 7 family

Last term the year 8’s went to camp, there were only the year 7’s at school to lead the school but  some of the year 8’s  did not attend to camp, so they had to stay back because they didn’t have permission, but it ok because we had  fun.

When Miss Muliaumasealii our Samoan half Tongan teacher told us that we are going to have some fun we was so excited.  Miss Clark said that we are going to watch some movies  we are going to watch it after lunch time.

It was lot of fun and we even had popcorn for the movies and it was so delicious!  When it was finished Ms Muliaumasealii said that who want to be  in art with Mr Wyllys and we stand up and said we were going do my best in this group.

So when it was the first time on my frits group we said to matua what are we doing today he said we are going to work on are big art and we said we can do that. So when it was the next day we were about to be finished i was doing the most work in this group but we did my best work this is the picture…  ,,the cooking group.

TERM 2!!

It’s the 1st day back for Term 2 . In the morning pt England school had a Immersion Assembly and the topic is “as i see it”.

team 1 is focused about their favourite thing and they are looking forward the draw their favourite things.   

Team 2 are focused at seasons like summer,winter,autumn and the best is spring, each class in team 2 is leaning on the each different seasons. Team 3 are focused upon Building and Architect based on a tv show called grand design.

team 4 are creating there own art in comics and the made a movie of their own, the teacher avengers each one is a copy superheroes. Bat guy, Wondering women and Team leader America and the bad guy named bear baxendine the evil stealing villain.     

In this task I wrote about my school immersion assembly. We had our annual  school immersion assembly yesterday in the morning.

the last was our team, team 5. We are focusing on our ancestors of 4 wakas and the colour is Blue- HineMoana, Red-Te Aurere, Yellow-Hikianalia and Green-Hokulia. 

The best part was they had a race to the end, I’m in the colour blue-HineMoana so I was cheering for blue-HineMoana, I was doing a sound that everyone would look at me. blue is the colour of the sea, anyway they race but sadly Green-Hokulia won the race.

  

The big blue rescue

The big blue rescue.

It’s a clear day Jeff and max were out in the ocean in canoes. They went so far that they lost their way back. It was now foggy and difficult to see the way home.  Back on land the rescue team were friends of Jeff and max. They were concerned because they couldn't see them.   Luckily they  put a tracking device in the canoes so they could be found.

Meanwhile Jeff and max luckily had a fishing rod and bait. They fished and fished but got nothing, then suddenly they caught something.  It was big, it was nothing but  just a big old boot.

Jeff and max was in the hot sun, they had a umbrella they open it up and max was fast asleep. Jeff saw something moving, it  slowly come from a corner,  and  dark,black thing. Suddenly he could see it clearly this was not good It was a storm. He wack max on the face to wake him up, it don’t work he put his hand the water it was cold as ice water, he got a hand full and dumped it on max‘s face. He woke up a saw the storm.

Back on land the rescue team found them. They had to move quick because they know that the the storm was coming. They jump in the rescue boat and paddle away. they search and search but nothing to see. find only they found them but bad luck…

they were in the storm and and it wasn't good, it was dark and windy war cracked  open between the storm and the Survivors,  they saw them trying the paddle to the rescue boat. But too late, after the the big wave  the ocean swallowed Jeff and max. The rescue team was floating on the ocean  trying to see but all they can see was  two  canoes.  crying in tears all the rescues team was to leave. as they leave they sang a song, a sad one.

but just as the boat turn around the two brothers pop up from the ocean say “help Help we're still alive the boat turn around again to pick them up.

back on land a party open up and family and friend were there, especially the rescue team.
